Habits take forever to become concrete. At least it feels that way, but it also feels effortless once it is in place. The tricky thing, after you actually establish a habit is ensuring a consistent follow through with it. All of a sudden you find yourself missing the odd day here and there and before you know it, the habits are crumbling. Maybe these habits were not set in the first place, or set well.
First domino
One of the most crucial habit for me it to wake up at 0530. Most of my habits are stacked on it. Like working on my personal projects, writing a few lines here and then working out. It was quite the challenge to get this habit going, felt easy for a while but the last couple of days I've been finding it difficult to fall asleep on time. It started out last week, when I found myself bit exhausted from working seven days a week for about four to five months. The break was warranted but I shouldn't have let it mess with my sleeping schedule.
I'm quite happy I decided to write this as it's helped me figure out something crucial about myself. I always had an idea but the last few lines have helped me realize that I can take a break from all other habits except waking up early. Which is fine, outside of eight hours of sleep there are sixteen hours to do everything I want to do or not do.
Rebuilding habits
The steps are the same as building a habit but since it's only been a handful of days that I've missed the habit, it should be less work than it was in the beginning.
As to why I might want to rebuild it, is quite obvious to me. The months that I was waking early, working on something for myself in the morning and training consistently were also the months I felt the most joy. It's something I felt physically in my body, and I want it back. I'm glad to have noticed and kept a note of the things that did make me feel that way. As now, I have a map.
