AI will make 90% of the software engineers obsolete

I'm mostly not on this team, as I'm not convinced it's not useful in the state that it is right now. As a programmer, it's useless when I'm learning a new language, or if I am not well versed in the language yet. As it just hinders my ability to learn. If I'm really good at the language, it's faster to just type the right code, than to get something half cocked that you have to fix. The argument that most of the new code on Github is AI generated is not flattering considering the number of bugs, half life of a line of code is higher than it's ever been. Do I want the above statement to be false? Is it not obvious? Will it be, maybe, maybe not. Either ways all I see is that there will still be a need for 10% Giga-Chad developers. I'm not there yet, but that where I'm heading. You are welcome to join me at the Chad station.

Also, my biggest advantage is that I love programming. Recently, I had trouble sleeping as the next morning I was going to start learning Zig. Usually that means, going through the dry language reference. Yet, the idea of learning a new language, that I want to learn after three years of no new languages was exhilarating. I'll admit, the enthusiasm has dropped a bit, but the familiarity has increased quite a lot. Just surprised by how much a single Aoc problem teaches. The code is quite messy, and I'm not sure if I have done certain things right, but I got it to compile and work. The answer to part two on day one is not correct, the sample wasn't able to catch my error. I don't plan on sifting through 1000 lines to find the error. The AI was useless at this too. So I'm moving on. I digress, but I'm sleepy, as I have been waking up earlier this week, to sneak a couple of hours of Zig in.

As for AI making me obsolete, maybe. But my intuition says, to dive deeper, understand things better. Look out for new ways to solve problems better. Like Tigerstyle for instance. There are many exciting things to get better at, things to build because I want to. Excellence is always valuable, courage to follow your own intuition no matter where it leads you, even more so. There will always be people who do things because they think the future is set, don't be one of those people, at least when it comes to things you really care about. Exercise your right to make a difference in your own life. However small or imperfect. Do the smallest things you can, for as long as you can. It'll add up one day.

No matter what you do, try to do it because you like it, not because it'll get you something. The journey is where we spend most of our life, why not make it enjoyable.
