Claude code is way better than cursor

Finally, an AI that can really take care of the tedious work. The last few days I've been really enjoying Claude Code doing all the things that act as the biggest hurdle to me starting on something. It's way better than Cursor, not because it's smarter but rather because of how good it is at replicating patterns that I follow in my existing project. It's also making me realize I could do a better job at reducing tedious work somehow. Sounds interesting. I've been able to notice patterns of things that are needed quite often. It's a server-rendered app built with Go, Htmx, AlpineJs and Templ which Cursor made a total mess of when I let it set up a feature for me. I'm surprised by how well Claude was able to not make a mess of things. It's really good at looking at existing patterns and sticking to them. The best part is that all the exciting stuff I can do on my own. I've made quite a substantial amount of progress simply because the startup costs of getting my arse in the chair and getting the mundane work done have gone down drastically. I think this could work. I can see the commands they are running to find files, patterns etc., and I'd say the Linux shell has skyrocketed the usefulness of Claude Code. It's worth a try, especially if you have a project that is set up. I'd still do the initial programming myself.

Got ALSA working

This morning I finally got ALSA to play the right audio. I even learned how to play a sine wave in a tone. It's indistinguishable from noise but it's the best music I've heard this year. The fruits of struggles are really sweet. Handmade Hero just continues to entertain. Best programming series ever, especially if you care about programming. Give it a go. Although I must admit the skill issues pop up right out of the gate. I spent an hour yesterday wrestling with the ALSA library because I completely forgot that slices in C are just pointers. I promise mediocre skills on the stream and I deliver at least on that front. Although the fun ended there, as after playing the sound my program just crashes. That's a problem for tomorrow.

Resistance

The last few days I've been really struggling with putting words down here. It might be this new goal of 300 blog posts before I hit 365 days of writing. I might just drop that goal, I was writing a lot more and having a lot more fun writing without it. Something about having to do something does not sit right with me. I tend to do way better without that expectation.
