Finally, I've managed to get the display to turn on. Only took about five days. I would have never imagined that just to turn the display on, you'd need to know so much. Then again, it's my first ever driver for hardware. I'm quite ecstatic about getting to this point. You could see about ten pixels light up on the display, but I earned it. At first, I couldn't even tell if it was on; I only noticed it because I'd been using the LED on the display as the error indicator, and it was off for the first time in two days. There are a couple of things I learned, one I knew about but with hardware it's more amplified.
Lesson 1. Just do what the manual says
I think it's my ego that gets in the way of just doing what the manual says. I try to understand, which is good, but at the same time I try to do things my way, which is fine if you know what you are doing, but when you have no fucking clue, it wastes a lot of time and piles on the frustration. Just RTFM as it is and do what it says.
Lesson 2.
I forgot lesson two after I wrote about the first one. Sorry.
I realized yesterday that streaming has had some benefits that I never foresaw. By the time I've finished streaming, I've got about three things done from my daily todo list. Plus, I'm writing Zig everyday, about five lines a day, but I'm liking that aspect about it. Initially, I'll probably just stream my side projects. I might change this later, but for now this is working very well.
Doing nothing for an hour
It's been bothering me that I haven't had a moment of nothingness unless it's a few moments before bed. So last night I went to bed an hour earlier than usual and did nothing. It was quite nice, there were a lot of thoughts but overall I found it quite relaxing. I think I lasted about fifteen minutes before I fell asleep though. But I'll take it.
