Intentions matter

A bit of woo woo topic today. Disregard anything illegal because as far as the the law is concerned, intentions don't matter, I'm guessing here. The area I wish to talk about, is what you can aim for without bringing harm to others or yourself.

Having a target

Intentions can be considered akin to having a target. Also, for sake of simplicity lets assume you have no idea how to achieve this goal. You have a first few steps or a vague idea but nothing concrete, you are not even sure it can be done. Others might have done it, but you are not sure if you can. This could be making money off your software, starting a company, learning to code etc.

This is step one towards achieving the target or bringing about meaningful change in your life. Some of us have this need. Sometimes these needs show up when something drastic happens in your life. Like it did for me when I got fired and wanted to have more control of my life, I wanted to own a substantial piece of the software that I would be working on. I had no idea how to do it, but I knew I that's what I wanted. To the point, I rejected jobs, which was scary at the time, but looking back was the right call. Maybe because at some level I always believed I could do it.

Going after it

Even though you really don't know if any steps you take will actually get you to your goal. Jump straight in, I don't have dependants so I alone would face the consequences of my actions so please do consider that. This step so far in my life has seemed the most vital. When you fully commit to one thing fully, magic tends to happen. Not immediately but in ways you never would have imagined. Doors open which you never noticed before, nothing will go to plan and that's a good thing. Your plans were never meant to work, they were only meant to get you going. Being flexible is quite important, be ready to throw away any mental modals that you might have come into this journey with.

Get used to failing, but that's not the goal. Failure is overrated. Make notes of things that work or move you a few steps closer to your goal. Remember that you miss all the shots you don't take.

Be flexible, but...

It's important to stay flexible, but if something feels intuitively the wrong direction, double check and be willing to follow that intuition. In my case, I ask myself if it feels uncomfortable because it's difficult or just feels plain wrong. If you are honest with yourself, you should be able to trust your gut fully. This works for me, if it's not your thing don't do it. Find out other markers that you like to rely on.

Find positivity

Pessimism is a self fulfilling prophesy, too much blind optimism early on is better than even a little bit of uninformed pessimism. Optimism has energy and is actionable, whereas pessimism is mostly revolving around inaction and avoidance. After all there are no clear markers or proofs to the fact that you'll be successful. So you'll need to invent a few.

What you are seeking, is seeking you

Along this journey, you'll pick up skills, ideas, gaps in the way things are and a lot more things. If your plans fail completely and you reach a dead end, you'll have a lot more tools in your toolbox to rely on. Sometime it'll be dumb luck, but remember that if you had not committed this journey you would have walked past that opportunity without ever noticing it. Even if it hits you on your face.

It's not a flaw, but that's just how our attention works. It can work for less obvious things too, like starting a business. It's not that they were invisible, but they needed to be looked at from a different angle, with the right pair of lenses.

Time is key, the longer you are around and more people associate you with what you are doing, your chances of success go higher. You'll find yourself getting luckier more often.
